by Rebecca Walker — July 24, 2009—Houston’s largest hotel, Hilton Americas-Houston, having recently received the unique distinction of becoming the first hotel in the state of Texas to achieve Green Seal certification, has now gone even greener with its conversion to biodiesel as an alternative, environmentally-friendly fuel.
Demonstrating environmental leadership in operations and purchasing, the downtown Houston convention hotel reduced its environmental impact and improved sustainability in accordance with stringent guidelines set out by Green Seal in order to obtain the certification, which confirms that the hotel complies with the environmental and performance requirements of the Green Seal Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties Silver level.
Taking its environmental commitment to an even higher level, Hilton Americas-Houston took delivery of its first load of biodiesel in July to further reduce the hotel’s overall carbon. Biodiesel, a non-toxic and biodegradable energy source, is a clean-burning alternative to petroleum diesel made from renewable domestic resources such as plant oils, animal fats and recycled grease and kitchen oil.
Directly connected to the George R. Brown Convention Center, the Hilton Americas-Houston contains the city’s largest number of guestrooms, ballrooms, hotel meeting space, and the most technologically advanced services available under one roof. For more information, see the Web site.
