by Brianna Crandall — June 17, 2015—Global technology provider Honeywell announced last week that it is working with Menkes Developments Ltd., a Toronto-based real estate firm, to help trim energy and operational costs at the firm’s 25 York Street property, also known as Telus Tower.

Opened in 2010, 25 York Street is a 30-story commercial facility and a prominent fixture on the Toronto skyline, says Honeywell. It is also a world-class smart building, featuring connected systems designed and delivered by Honeywell. To identify new opportunities to improve efficiency and the environment for occupants, Honeywell will now provide cloud-based services that analyze facility performance data and turn it into actionable recommendations.

“Even the most advanced facilities will experience a gradual decrease in performance over time, and it can be difficult to identify and address those issues before they negatively impact the bottom line,” said John Rajchert, president of Honeywell Building Solutions. “Honeywell has the tools and expertise to make it easier for companies to not only know what is happening in their facilities, but to also take the appropriate actions to keep them operating at a high level.”

Attune Advisory Services

As part of the project, Honeywell will deploy its Attune Advisory Services, which include software that connects buildings to advanced analytics, and a global network of energy and facility experts to optimize operations. Attune will help facilities managers sift through complex data from building automation systems to pinpoint potential improvements, and develop action plans to enhance energy and operational efficiency.

LEED Dynamic Plaque

The project also includes the addition of the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED Dynamic Plaque, a monitoring tool that will display the facility’s current performance across five categories: energy, water, waste, occupant transportation, and human experience. The plaque will help 25 York Street continue to meet the highest green building standards and maintain its LEED Platinum certification. It will be the first plaque in Canada, says Honeywell, and the company will complete the installation with the support of USGBC and the Canada Green Building Council.

Attune and the LEED Dynamic Plaque will be implemented at 25 York Street by summer 2015. Both tools will supplement the integrated technology from Honeywell that currently powers the facility, which includes heating, cooling, lighting, security, and safety systems.
