by Shane Henson — January 2, 2012—Hubbell Lighting, a major North American lighting fixture manufacturer, has made it even easier for facilities managers and specifiers to learn about and view their wide assortment of products. The company recently made its Electronic Product Selection Guide (e-PSG) available for download on the App Store for iPad and iPhone, as well as in the Android Market for Android smartphones and tablets.

Initially conceived as an alternative to printed catalogs that become obsolete before they come off the press, the e-PSG was first developed as a desktop application for PCs and Macs to give professional lighting specifiers an electronic catalog that would perpetually update itself with new products and even changes in product data, explains Hubbell Lighting. Demand for mobile versions of the e-PSG sprang up quickly. The company responded immediately by rolling out the e-PSG as a Web app that runs in a browser, and as a mobile app for smartphones and mobile devices.

In addition to providing PDF files of each product’s catalog page and user-editable product spec sheets, the app also organizes direct links to each product’s Web page, where users can download IES photometric files and even e-mail those files to clients directly from the app. The e-PSG app even takes full advantage of mobile mapping technology to help users find the nearest distributor or agent.
