by Shane Henson — June 22, 2011—Hubbell Lighting recently provided an extensive lighting installation serving the needs of BAE Systems Inc., a global defense and security company that recently opened a new office facility in the Redland Corporate Center in Rockville, Maryland.
Designed by DBI Architects Inc., (DBI) the six-story, 139,120-square-foot BAE office reflects the company’s commitment to reducing its impact on the environment and, in the process, improving its operational efficiency, BAE Systems officials say.
To contribute to BAE’s LEED and sustainability objectives—the building eventually achieved a LEED Silver status—DBI worked closely with One Source Associates, the Hubbell lighting agent serving the Baltimore, Washington and Virginia markets. Together, they specified three of Hubbell Lighting’s indoor lighting brands—Columbia Lighting, Prescolite, and Dual-Lite.
Columbia Lighting’s fluorescent fixtures specified included narrow parabolics in the open office areas throughout all floors. Adding to the total interior illumination plan, Prescolite 6″ horizontal triple compact fluorescent lamped downlighting fixtures brought a sparkle of light to all the main corridors, and cross baffle downlights light the corridors where there was no plenum space. Energy-efficient Dual-Lite LED Edge-lit exit signage throughout the building directs occupants to the building’s exits.
