by Shane Henson — October 9, 2013—Hunter Douglas recently announced the availability of an all-in-one shading solution for architects and interior designers and others seeking an energy efficient and versatile window covering.

The company’s new GlacierScreen Platinum, part of its GlacierScreen family of solar shading fabrics, is an innovative window covering solution with a proprietary reflective silver backing to enhance thermal and interior comfort.

Hunter Douglas says the reflective layer of aluminum on the reverse side of the fabric offers the best of both worlds: great heat reflection and excellent glare control. The spray coating method applied to the material improves the durability of the fabric surface. GlacierScreen Platinum is reportedly scratch resistant and better able to resist the harmful effects of corrosion and oxidation when compared to other physical vapor deposits products. It is also easier to clean, reducing maintenance costs over the life of the roller shade, the company says.

“Adding GlacierScreen Platinum to our extensive selection of roller shade fabrics continues our commitment to manufacturing high-quality products that look great and lower the demand on building HVAC systems.” said Rich Ries, general manager of Hunter Douglas Contract Window Coverings. “With its superior resistance to scratch and corrosion, GlacierScreen Platinum delivers a longer product lifecycle.”

Certified as a low-emissions product by GREENGUARD Institute, GlacierScreen Platinum is available in an openness factor of 4 percent, which blocks nearly 100 percent of ultraviolet radiation that typically enters interiors through the glazing, the company adds.

“The fabric’s openness and color also help to reduce glare, which is particularly vital for corporate interiors and educational settings,” notes Ries.
