ICLEI USA welcomes first Nebraska members; reaches 600 total

by Brianna Crandall — December 10, 2010—ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA (ICLEI USA), the national local government association addressing climate change and sustainability, welcomed the Nebraska cities of Lincoln and Omaha as its newest members on December 1. ICLEI USA’s membership among local governments now includes more than 600 local governments in 49 states.

As Nebraska’s only ICLEI USA members, Omaha and Lincoln can pave the way for neighboring communities to leverage sustainability for a stronger economy and healthier environment, notes the organization.

As part of ICLEI USA’s long-standing commitment to empowering local governments, Omaha and Lincoln will benefit from the organization’s innovative tools and technical support, which will strengthen local energy and sustainability initiatives.

As part of their membership, both cities have access to state-of-the-art technical tools to help with sustainability planning; national trainings and events; policy and communications assistance; a national network of peer expertise; and ICLEI USA’s signature Five Milestones planning methodology, employed by some of the country’s most innovative local governments.
