IFMA Foundation launches INTERNnet to match FM students with internship opportunities

by Brianna Crandall — June 3, 2015—The IFMA Foundation has launched an online internship posting board called INTERNnet to match facilities management (FM) students with employers seeking to fill internship and temporary positions, recognizing that internships are one of the best ways for students to gain real-world experience, and for employers to preview and shape their future workforce.

INTERNnet is a part of the IFMA Foundation’s Global Workforce Initiative, which was launched to make FM a career of choice for students at every level of the education system, from grade school through post-secondary. Access is free for students, while employers pay a nominal posting fee to help ensure the quality of opportunities listed on the site.

INTERNnet is part of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) JobNet service, which allows organizations to post job opportunities and prospective candidates to share their resumes. This serves to match the right candidates to the right positions faster and more easily than larger multi-profession employment sites.

INTERNnet is focused on providing real work experiences for students currently enrolled in college or secondary degree programs. It will be particularly beneficial to students enrolled in one of the Foundation’s 30 accredited degree programs around the world.

In a related move, the IFMA Foundation’s Global Workforce Initiative is also currently building educational pilot programs in San Bernardino County and Silicon Valley in California and New York City to bring the story of this profession to students in high school to ensure that FM degree programs will have a healthy pipeline in the future.

Established in 1990 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and separate entity from the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), the IFMA Foundation works for the public good to promote priority research and educational opportunities for the advancement of facilities management, and is supported by the generosity of the FM community.
