May 16, 2011—In the latest FM 100 Poll, more than a quarter of respondents said they believe energy prices will rise by 11 percent or more this winter, and nearly half said energy prices will likely rise between 6 percent and 10 percent. Around 12 percent predicted a price increase of 5% or less.
On a more positive note, another 12 percent of respondents said prices would remain the same, or possibly drop.
The more pessimistic respondents— the 28 percent who said prices would rise by 11 percent more—are in line with domestic consumption predictions made by energy supplier Centrica.
Forward wholesale energy prices for gas and electricity for winter 2011/12 are around 25 per cent higher than this time last year, warned Centrica earlier this month.
