by Rebecca Walker — December 8, 2010—One out of four facilities managers will allow staff to put up decorations with “no limits” this Christmas, according to a poll from FM World.
However, there is the understanding by that 27 percent of respondents that common sense will prevail and health and safety issues will be observed. A further 64 percent said they will allow office decorations but under the facilities department supervision or authority.
FM World asked where the limits and allowances lie as far as festive decorations.
“With over 100 separate buildings to look after we would be hard pushed to stop them,” explained one respondent. Another said: We have no say in it. Senior management allows them to do as they wish. All FM does is provide staff with catering if they want it.”
Just under 10 percent will be banning all decorations, and with good reason, with one respondent noting, “They invariably set off the intruder alarm.”
