Ingram Micro launches Smart Steward recycling program for small electronics, printer supplies

by Brianna Crandall — March 21, 2011—Ingram Micro, reportedly the world’s largest technology distributor and supply-chain services provider, has launched the Smart Steward recycling program, providing a convenient avenue for the environmentally friendly disposal of small electronics and printer supplies. Ingram Micro says this new program is another way the company is able to offer its resellers incremental revenue.

North American resellers can now utilize the company’s Smart Steward Web site to arrange for the recycling of toner and ink cartridges and small electronic devices such as mobile phones, for which Ingram Micro provides a trade-in payment. Through the Web site, the reseller can also request shipping materials for the safe return of the recyclables. Resellers are able to set up accounts for their own business and those of their customers. If a cartridge cannot be reused, it is recycled into other products.

Ingram Micro launched its Smart Citizen global corporate social responsibility program in 2010. Since then, it has received ISO 14001 certification for its environmental systems in North America and disclosed sustainability activities on its Smart Citizen, Smart Steward Web site. The company works closely with its business partners to contribute to a socially responsible supply chain throughout the world.
