by Brianna Crandall — November 8, 2010—Interserve, the international services, maintenance and building group, has been awarded three school contracts in the U.K., worth a total of 42 million. The contracts include a 23 million improvement program for Farnley Park High School in Leeds; a further 11 million of schools extensions in the Nottinghamshire Construction Framework; and an 8 million contract to increase the capacity of four schools for Coventry City Council.
The contract for Farnley Park, which recently achieved a Specialist Mathematics and Computing College status, will be carried out as part of the Leeds Building Schools for the Future (BSF) program, with completion planned for July 2012. It involves the construction of state-of-the-art facilities for staff, pupils and members of the wider community, including a new school entrance and reception area, main school hall, learning resource centre, sports hall and external sports facilities, activity studios, hydrotherapy pool, dining hall, drama facilities, open learning areas, administration/office space, external hard and soft landscaping, and improved vehicle parking areas.
The Nottinghamshire school extensions will take place at Blidworth, Langold, Ryton and Beeston Fields. Work is continuing on from the program Interserve carried out last year at Langar, Ranby, Clarborough and Radcliffe-on-Trent schools. In 2006 Interserve was appointed as one of three contractors in the Nottinghamshire Construction Framework and has since won some 40 million of contracts for projects in education, social services, highway maintenance depots, libraries and offices.
In Coventry Interserve was awarded the “Increasing Pupil Places 2010/11” partnering contract to provide additional school places in areas of increased population growth based upon forecasts made by the Council. Classroom extensions at four primary schools will create a total of 735 new pupil places, with the facilities expected to be ready in September 2011.
