Ireland to offer first FM degree at Dublin Institute of Technology

by Brianna Crandall — September 22, 2010—A new property and facilities management degree course is being introduced at the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Bolton Street, this fall. The four-year BSc degree course is being launched by the IPFMA (Irish Property and Facility Management Association) in partnership with DIT Bolton Street.

The part-time study program covers all aspects of managing property, both commercial and residential, assets and facilities. After two and a half years, students will be awarded a higher certificate, with a BSc degree (ordinary) conferred after four years.

IPFMA chairman Peter Moloney of Most Commercial Management commented, “This is a major milestone for our profession. We believe that this fast-growing industry sector looks all set to continue to grow significantly with more and more commercial buildings and assets needing management due to the envisaged future slow movement in the commercial market. The new degree course will ensure that those practicing property and facility management in the future are fully educated and qualified, with the most comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practice expertise available.”
