by Brianna Crandall — May 19, 2014—In the words of American author and humorist Mark Twain: “There are two types of speakers. Those who get nervous and those who are liars.” Mindful that public speaking is considered one of the greatest fears a person can have, the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) has published a new white paper linking the importance of good presentation skills to career growth and laying out key techniques to acquire and refine those skills.
Titled simply “Leadership Development: Presentation Skills,” the publication is the ninth in a series of IREM white papers that focus on various leadership-related competencies critical to real estate management and general business achievement. It highlights sequential steps for giving a memorable presentation, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation. It also includes 14 tips to overcome anxiety when speaking, and 10 common mistakes to absolutely steer clear of during a presentation.
IREM Members can download the IREM white paper on “Leadership Development: Presentation Skills” at no cost from the group’s Publications Web site, but they must log in as a member to download the publication for free. Nonmembers can also download the white paper for $5.99.
There are currently nine white papers in IREM’s Leadership Competencies series that are each available for individual download, or as a package at a 20% discount:
