September 9, 2015—The Institute for Real Estate Management (IREM), an affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS serving both the multifamily and commercial sectors, is helping set high standards for ethics in real estate management by contributing to the International Ethics Standard Coalition and through the annual IREM Ethics Awareness Month in September.
The International Ethics Standard Coalition began at the United Nations October 2014 and was created to define and unify the role of ethics in the global real estate market. IREM was one of its founding members and continues to make contributions to the coalition.
“This is a very exciting project at a time when many professions and sectors are looking closely at the role ethics play in developing trust, transparency, and greater confidence in how we conduct business,” noted Lori Burger, CPM, IREM president, Eugene Management Burger Corporation, AMO, Rohnert Park, California.
During September, IREM and its network of 92 chapters in the United States and around the globe are kicking off IREM Ethics Awareness Month—which spotlights IREM’s commitment to professional ethics through an ethics-themed Webinar, member-produced videos, an ethics-focused social media campaign, and other activities at the local level from materials developed by the IREM Ethics Committee.
“Ethics is part of IREM’s legacy and has been a cornerstone since the very beginning. We are here to let our members, our residents and tenants, our clients, and our employers know that IREM members don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk,” said Burger. “That’s what makes IREM unique.”
Professionals can access a white paper based on actual ethics cases from the IREM Web site: “Real Life Ethics for the Professional Real Estate Manager.”
