by Brianna Crandall — March 25, 2013—ISS Hong Kong has been awarded a contract to supply facilities management services for the first Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) in Hong Kong. The three-story building includes an exhibition and education area, eco-office, eco-home and multipurpose hall in the building, as well as an eco-plaza, outdoor exhibition areas, an eco-café in the landscape area, and Hong Kong’s first urban native woodland outside the building.

The Zero Carbon Building was developed by the Construction Industrial Council in collaboration with the Hong Kong Government. It is a signature project to showcase state-of-the-art eco-building design and technologies to the construction industry internationally and locally as well as to raise community awareness of sustainable living in Hong Kong.

The building is designed to achieve carbon neutrality. A wide range of advanced green facilities and features are installed to reduce the use of energy and water and to reduce heat generation. In addition, the building utilizes solar panels and biodiesel from waste cooking oil to generate renewable energy onsite.

The ISS facilities management team will work in close partnership with the client by incorporating green practices in daily services to align with the mission of the building. Apart from the management of the infrastructure and soft services of the building, ISS will support the client in facilitating educational events and exhibitions in the building to promote energy efficiency and sustainability.

This contract recognizes the efforts of the ISS Hong Kong facilities management team to promote a green FM culture in Hong Kong. The team’s efforts have helped achieve various awards for the properties under their management in recent years like the “Excellence in Facility Management Award (Green Performance)” for Cyberport , the “Excellence in Facility Management Grand Award” for Hong Kong Science Park, and the “Silver Award in LEED Certification for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance” for AIA Central.
