by Brianna Crandall — October 12, 2015—Global facilities services provider ISS has won or expanded outsourcing contracts for facilities services, cleaning and catering in several countries in recent weeks, including the ones highlighted below.
ISS Sweden and Grundfos
ISS Sweden has signed and extended a new three-year contract with Grundfos, with great potential to grow larger in the future. The contract builds on a long-standing partnership dating back to 1989, when ISS started providing cleaning services at Grundfos in Bjerringbro. Today ISS delivers a wide range of services within cleaning, outdoor and property maintenance across Grundfos’ seven locations in Denmark.
The new contract expands the cooperation further as ISS takes over new responsibilities within property services, which includes an extension of electrical, plumbing and winter ground maintenance services. The contract begins January 1, 2016, and will have an annual turnover of approximately DKK 60 million.
ISS Switzerland and Swiss Federal Railways Infrastructure Division
ISS Switzerland has signed a new five-year contract with the Swiss Federal Railways Infrastructure Division, SBB Infrastructure, for the maintenance of the sewage system in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, considered the world’s longest railway tunnel. The contract has a total revenue of CHF 19 million over the contract period.
With the two 57-kilometer-long single-track tubes and a new line of 33 kilometers, the Gotthard Base Tunnel is, besides being an exceptional civil engineering structure in Switzerland, also the longest and deepest railway tunnel in the world. The new railway line connects the north portal with the south portal.
ISS Switzerland’s infrastructure services division will ensure the sewer maintenance as well as the disposal of rinsing. Each week, three fixed night maintenance shifts will carry out maintenance on the tunnels. In one shift up to 19 specially built maintenance trains can be used simultaneously to carry out various maintenance works on the 57 kilometers. ISS’ infrastructure division will also be on board these trains.
ISS’s partnership with SBB started eight years ago in 2007. During that period, the company has been able to continuously expand the service portfolio with technical services at railway stations throughout Switzerland and also with integrated facility services contracts at the SBB headquarters in Bern. The contract with the Swiss Federal Railways Infrastructure division commences June 1, 2016.
ISS China with Huashan Hospital
ISS China has won a new contract to provide integrated facility services to one of the top hospitals in China, the Huashan Hospital in Shanghai.
Huashan Hospital of Fudan University is reportedly ranked among the very best hospitals in China. Founded in 1907, the hospital has 1292 beds, employs 2,700 people, and handles 64,000 person-stays each year. It also serves as the general hospital of the Chinese Red Cross Association. When the new contract is fully implemented, approximately 350 ISS employees will be working at the Huashan Hospital.
ISS China has begun to target the healthcare industry as a focal point of business development based on strategic analysis of trends in the industry. There is a significant potential market for ISS’ services in the healthcare sector in China and the collaboration with Huashan Hospital stands as a major first step and a promising beginning for the entrance of ISS China into the emerging healthcare market.
Jack Zhou, country manager of ISS China, expressed his thanks to the ISS Singapore team for their indispensable support during the project preparation period, and to the local business unit of ISS China for their significant contributions. ISS has been in China since 2005 and has approximately 16,500 employees in China.
ISS Denmark with Danish Broadcasting Corporation
ISS Denmark has regained the role as service provider to the Danish Broadcasting Corporation DR by signing a new three-year contract. As a special part of the agreement, ISS Denmark will establish a café at DR’s headquarters, Café Glad (Café Happy), which will be run by mentally challenged employees. ISS is said to have a tradition of helping people with special needs into the labor market.
From January 1, 2016, ISS will once again deliver catering and cleaning services at DR’s locations in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and in the second-biggest city, Aarhus, as well as cleaning services at all of DR’s 11 locations across the country.
ISS will operate canteens and handle cafés, vending machines and meeting services, as well as catering to DR’s Concert Hall, bars, tours, backstage, and internal events. The cleaning agreement includes cleaning, window polishing, plant services and washroom maintenance.
