ISS wins security and cleaning contract with NIBSC

by Brianna Crandall — January 25, 2013—ISS Facility Services U.K. was recently awarded a contract to provide security and cleaning services to the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC), a center of the U.K.’s Health Protection Agency (HPA), a government-established independent organization charged with protecting the public from infectious diseases and environmental hazards.

Based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, NIBSC is a world-renowned multidisciplinary scientific establishment charged with safeguarding and enhancing public health by standardizing and controlling biological substances used in medicines, such as vaccines and products made from blood and tissues.

The nature of the facility demands high levels of vigilance coupled with exemplary hygiene. A team of eight ISS security officers will provide a constant 24-hour presence on-site, with a receptionist covering weekday office hours, and seven operatives will provide general and periodic cleaning, with certain areas of the building benefitting from a more specialized service.

The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is a global leader in the field of biological standardization, responsible for developing and producing over 90 percent of the International Standards in use around the world to assure the quality of biological medicines. The Institute is the U.K.’s Official Medicines Control Laboratory (OMCL), responsible for testing of biological medicines within the framework of the European Union. NIBSC also has a particularly close relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The ISS Group was founded in Copenhagen in 1901 and has grown to become one of the world’s leading facilities services companies. ISS offers a wide range of services in the areas of: cleaning services, support services, property services, catering services, security services and facilities management services.
