by Brianna Crandall — May 19, 2014—ISSA, The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association, has added several free cleaning industry-related videos to its collection of ISSA-TV Educational Quick Clip videos in the last several weeks. Two of the most recent and relevant ones, concerning daytime cleaning and healthy schools, are described below.
ISSA-TV: “Daytime Cleaning Boosts Financial Sustainability”
In the latest free ISSA-TV Educational Quick Clip video (week of May 14), Steve Spencer addresses those who are still on the fence about performing cleaning operations during the day, and explains how his facility’s day cleaning procedures improve occupant health and the environment, while increasing financial sustainability. A facilities specialist in cleaning and interior maintenance for State Farm Insurance Co., Spencer is regarded as one of the nation’s leading authorities on safety, health, and hygiene, and is a nationally recognized consultant, author, and speaker with more than 30 years of experience in the jansan industry.
In the video, Spencer addresses the planning needed for a successful daytime cleaning program. He runs through the schedule of his company’s daytime cleaning operations, explaining, for example, how they clean the main lobby, executive areas and most floors before the building opens; and male/female restroom specialists clean restrooms three to four times during the day without the need for closures; and they use the company’s meeting room scheduler software to clean meeting rooms when unoccupied. According to Spencer, the company saves about 10% in cleaning costs and 7%-8% in energy costs per year with this method.
ISSA-TV: “Schools + Green Cleaning = Healthy Kids”
In the free Quick Clip video for the week of April 23, Healthy Schools Campaign vice president of policy and communications Mark Bishop explains how green cleaning plus community engagement adds up to better learning environments and healthier students. The Healthy Schools Campaign is an independent, nonprofit organization that serves as the leading authority on healthy school environments and a voice for people who care about the environment, children and education.
