by Brianna Crandall — December 8, 2014—Managed IT Experts, an information technology (IT) solutions consultancy based in Dunfermline, Scotland, has become the first business in the country to achieve a Bronze Resource Efficiency Pledge certificate and is urging others to follow suit. The Pledge was devised by Resource Efficient Scotland, a program of Zero Waste Scotland (funded by the Scottish government), to help businesses reduce their environmental impact and save money by minimizing their use of energy, water and raw materials.
Organizations signing up to the Pledge must commit to taking a number of actions to become more resource efficient, progressing as these targets are met to achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum certification. Managed IT Experts pledged to develop an environmental policy, implement measures to reduce energy consumption by at least five percent, drive change by sharing experience across the business community, and reduce business travel.
Iain Gulland, chief executive, Zero Waste Scotland, congratulated Managed IT Experts on its successful certification, and encouraged all organizations to sign up, no matter what stage in the process they are at. Gulland noted that Zero Waste Scotland’s research “shows that organizations in Scotland could save as much as £2.9 billion every year by making more efficient use of their resources.”
David Shuster of Managed IT Experts commented, “Given that IT can enable a reduction in the overall carbon footprint of any business, we signed up to the Resource Efficiency Pledge to show our commitment to resource efficiency and are delighted to be the first company in Scotland to achieve a Bronze certificate.
“Our selected Pledge Actions centered on business processes, and we introduced an environmental policy. The result is that we have reduced transport emissions by 80 percent and improved energy efficiency within our office by capitalizing on the new and innovative IT solution for small businesses — Green IT-in-a-Box, resulting in a cost saving of more than £2,400 in five years.
“The advice and support service from Resource Efficient Scotland has helped us to fulfil our Pledge, and we look forward to using the Resource Efficiency Pledge logo to demonstrate our success to clients.”
