As electricity meters have gained more functionality, they also have become more difficult to use, requiring technicians to be trained in using the complicated programming software and meter interface. AMETEK Power Instruments, the newest business unit of AMETEK, Inc., has brought together new technology to simplify the process. The new Scientific Columbus JEMStar multi-function revenue meter was made to be user-friendly, with very powerful capabilities.
It has been simplified in two ways. First, its data graphic display uses a simple-to-navigate menu format via directional keys, eliminating encrypted warning codes and combinations of buttons to access certain features. An on-screen vector diagram allows site verification of wiring, and communications can be tested before leaving the site. Second, AMETEK also simplified the software, adding a configuration wizard similar to the chart and presentation wizards that are used in many Windows-based applications.
Although the JEMStar meter is easy to use, it is powerful, says AMETEK. In an industry where an error as low as a fraction of a percent can mean the loss of thousands of dollars, the JEMStar meter captures the money lost through inaccurate measurement. In addition, the new meter has some very powerful communications capabilities. With deregulation, more people are relying on he data from the meter. The Scientific Columbus JEMStar meter is available from Rochester Instruments Systems of AMETEK Power Instruments.
