by Shane Henson — September 23, 2013—Kaba Access & Data Systems Americas, a U.K.-based maker of solutions for security at access points to buildings and for containers, as well as for recording personal and enterprise data, recently announced the release of its PowerPlex 2000 Series pushbutton access control locks.
According to Kaba, the electronic pushbutton lock utilizes its proprietary PowerStar technology, requiring no wiring or batteries. Previous models required a pump of the lever to generate power, the company says. Also, the product utilizes new built-in super capacitor technology to store power longer, up to 14 weeks with no activity. The new integration of technology fits with today’s security desires, enhances the user experience, and is designed for a broad spectrum of applications, Kaba adds.
The feature-rich PowerPlex electronic pushbutton lock provides access by entering a programmed PIN code (personal identification number), and allows free egress, eliminating concerns associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys or cards. Multiple key override options are available. The lock is ideal for small to mid-sized facilities, rarely visited remote locations, retail “Employees Only” areas and military facilities, says Kaba.
Additional features include:
- 1000 event audit trail
- Cylindrical, exit device and mortise installation compatibility
- Five levels of programmed authority accessibility
- Tamper-proof lock-out and adjustable re-lock
- ANIS/BHMA Grade 1 certification
- Three-year warranty
The new PowerPlex 2000 Series will replace all EPS2000 PowerStar push-button locks. Kaba also says it sees the development of its PowerPlex and PowerStar technology as a sustainable innovation for a growing “green-minded” market.
