by Brianna Crandall — October 23, 2017 — Solid-state lighting provider Kenall has introduced the SenScape SPG18 series, a sealed, low-profile luminaire for parking structures. The fixture’s slim, aesthetically pleasing design provides a high lumen-per-watt and uplight combination, with Kenall’s trademark glare control. In addition, its IP65 rating protects SenScape from the ingress of dust, dirt, debris and water.
SenScape includes a 12% uplight option, an 18% uplight option, and a 100% downlight version. It features optional daylight harvesting, which Kenall notes is highly desirable in parking garages as well as canopy and low-bay applications. Unlike traditional edge-lighting, which compromises fixture efficiency as well as the control of thermals and uplight, SenScape’s back-lit design provides a low-profile engine without compromising the fixture integrity, says the company.
Joe Welch, Kenall’s Parking and Controls product manager, stated:
This is a totally new, ground-up design with robust thermal management capabilities and highly efficient optical design. We’ve been able to position the occupancy and daylight sensors behind the lens, which maintains the design aesthetic and construction integrity of the fixture, even when controls are added to SenScape.
The luminaire has already been recognized by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) in its 2017 Progress Report, announced in August.
Welch concluded:
We’re really excited about SenScape. It is a sleek, high efficiency product that works in a variety of applications. Even though it was inspired by specifiers looking for a low profile parking garage luminaire, early market feedback tells us SenScape will also look and perform well in canopy, commercial, and low-bay applications.
