Kimberly-Clark Professional upgrades recycled fiber content capabilities

by Ann Withanee — October 1, 2010—Kimberly-Clark Professional has made a multimillion dollar investment to boost the recycled fiber capabilities of its Loudon, Tenn., facility. The investment will enable the mill to increase the amount of recycled fiber in a range of Kleenex and Scott brand towel products, according to the announcement.

The capital improvements will bring the Loudon facility up to the same recycled fiber capacity of other state-of-the-art Kimberly-Clark Professional production facilities and enable Kimberly-Clark Professional to increase the recycled fiber content of some of its towel products to up to 100 percent. Project construction was completed in July 2010 and production is currently ramping up.

In 2009, Kimberly-Clark Professional launched Reduce Today, Respect Tomorrow, a program that represents the Kimberly-Clark Professional philosophy of reducing the use of natural resources throughout the life cycle of its products. This big-picture approach helps the company design products to eliminate waste from the start. Products created with source-reduction in mind are designed in such a way that users actually consume less, either through improved performance, more reliable dispensing methods, or both.
