by Jbs082710 b3 — August 30, 2010—Knoll, Inc. recently announced that the company’s Antenna Workspaces and Generation by Knoll, two award-winning products, have achieved BIFMA level 3 certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). Level 3 is the highest rating that a product can achieve under the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association’s (BIFMA) furniture sustainability standard. Antenna Workspaces and Generation are also GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified.
Antenna Workspaces, an approach to workplace design that reflects the freedom and mobility people seek in today’s office, considers the growing variety of settings where work takes place, says Knoll. By blending desks, tables, storage units and screens that are manufactured with FSC-certified components and that contain no PVC, Antenna Workspaces creates intuitive workplace solutions for individuals and groups. Antenna Workspaces received a 2010 Best of NeoCon Innovation award.
Generation by Knoll, a ground-breaking work chair that supports the range of postures and work styles typical of today’s dynamic workplace, supports neutral postures in traditional task positions and also encourages expression, creativity and engagement by allowing more informal postures. Generation’s materially efficient design is manufactured using 40 percent recycled content and is the first chair to be rated SMaRT Sustainable Platinum. Generation by Knoll received a 2009 Best of NeoCon Gold award and a 2009 Best of Year Product Design Award from Interior Design magazine.
BIFMA established level as a common framework against which to evaluate the environmental and social responsibility of a variety of products. In the BIFMA level certification process, a product, the organization and facilities that produced it are scored according to sustainability criteria in four areas: Materials; Energy and Atmosphere; Human and Ecosystem Health; and Social Responsibility.
