KONE wins maintenance, modernization contract for Rome Metro

by AF 0909 g5 — September 11, 2009—KONE has won a contract from Met.Ro Rome for the maintenance of all units—escalators, autowalks, elevators and stair lifts—installed in the Rome underground lines. The three-year contract is worth more than 12 million euros, and includes modernization activities that account for more than half of the amount.

Met.Ro, Metropolitana di Roma S.p.A., manages the public transportation service of lines A and B of the Roman underground and of the regional railways (ex concession) Roma-Lido (Ostia), Roma-Giardinetti and Roma-Viterbo. A million people use the Met.Ro in Rome and Lazio every day.

“The fact that KONE was awarded this contract ensures an operational advantage since KONE is also the manufacturer of the majority of the units installed, approximately 60 percent of the total units,” said Mario Macaluso, Contract Management Director for Met.Ro S.p.A. “We are confident that the long lasting and successful cooperation with KONE will confirm the high quality standards of this new contract.”
