Having trouble finding the right cables for your digital connections? See if one of these specialized cables might do the trick

by Brianna Crandall — April 11, 2018 — L-com Global Connectivity, a manufacturer of wired and wireless connectivity products, has introduced several specialized cables with various types of connectors in recent months for digital connection needs, including waterproof cables for harsh environments (IP-rated and RJ45), a USB 2.0 compliant cable featuring a Type-C female panel-mount connector, 20-Pin DisplayPort cables, and USB 3.0 cable assemblies with Type-A to Type-C connectors.

IP67 waterproof Ethernet cables

L-com launched a new series of IP67 rated waterproof Ethernet cables designed to address harsh environment networking applications, that may appeal to industrial, military and transportation specifiers.

The innovative design of L-com’s new IP67 waterproof cables allows them to be used with IP rated receptacles for a watertight seal, or they can be used with standard RJ45 jacks. This eliminates the need to find specialized cables that are IP rated on one end and have a standard RJ45 on the other end, and users can save time and money by purchasing just one assembly to address multiple applications. This dual functionality is accomplished by a waterproof shroud that can be pulled back to mate with standard RJ45 jacks.

Additional features include a foil shield to protect against EMI/RFI interference, a tethered dustproof shroud cap, and a CMX outdoor burn rating. These versatile cables are available in both Category 5e and Category 6 versions and are compatible with L-com’s WPBH series of RJ45 jacks for an IP67 rated seal.

USB 2.0 Type-C cables with panel-mount connectors

L-com also released a new series of USB 2.0 compliant cables featuring a Type-C female panel-mount connector on one end of the assembly.

The new U3A00056 series cables were developed to address applications where a USB Type-C connection must be passed through a panel or enclosure. By using these integrated panel-mount connectors, the need for a standalone USB coupler is not necessary. These unique cables feature twisted pair data lines to help reduce crosstalk, 30u gold-plated connectors that stand up to repeated mating cycles, and double-shielded cable for superior EMI/RFI protection.

20-pin DisplayPort cables with power support

In addition, L-com launched a new line of DisplayPort cable assemblies with the 20th pin populated proving power support.

L-com’s new DPA00003 series DisplayPort cables were specifically designed to address applications where high-resolution video, audio and power are required. Additionally, these high-performance cables also feature color depth of 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16 bits per component, support for up to 2560×1600 video resolution and support for HDCP. L-com offers a broad selection of DisplayPort cables off-the-shelf including LSZH, panel-mount and low-profile connector versions.

High-flex USB 3.0 cable assemblies with Type-A male to Type-C male connectors

Finally, L-com introduced a new series of high-flex USB 3.0 cable assemblies with Type-A male to Type-C male connectors, available in 0.3, 0.5, 0.75 and 1-meter lengths off-the-shelf.

Designed for applications where standard USB 3.0 cables would fail because of extreme flexure, these exclusive ultra-flexible cables are rated for a minimum of 10,000 flex cycles. Standard USB cables fail at approximately 1,000 flex cycles, notes the company, meaning these durable cables can withstand 10 times as many flex cycles as a standard cable while maintaining USB 3.0 performance. Additional features include a polyurethane jacket and high strand count data (32 AWG) and power (26 AWG) conductors, which provide extra durability.
