by Brianna Crandall — July 18, 2014—High-design site furniture manufacturer Landscape Forms is introducing Harpo, a new bench collection from global partner Santa & Cole, the Barcelona-based company renowned for high design in the modernist tradition. “Our partnership with Santa & Cole enables us to offer great European design and make it easy to acquire in the U.S.,” explains Landscape Forms President, Richard Heriford. “With Harpo we were successful in achieving fine design at a very attractive price point.”
Harpo includes a bench in two lengths, with and without back and arms. Designed by the distinguished father-and-son team Miguel and Gonzalo Milá, Harpo is site furniture in an international idiom, says Landscape Forms. Kirt Martin, Landscape Forms vice president, design and marketing, states, “Harpo is wonderful design. The visual language is pure, clean and architectural. The pieces are slim in profile but also heavy and durable. This is design refined to its essentials.”
Harpo features a robust bent and welded steel structure with slatted seats and backs. The exceptionally comfortable collection is universally applicable to streetscapes, public parks and private spaces, says the company. A choice of wood or aluminum slats allows distinct aesthetic approaches. Wood slats are offered in both wide and narrow widths. Wide aluminum slats are anodized. Steel frames are powder-coat finished in standard Landscape Forms colors.
Santa & Cole was founded in Barcelona, Spain, in 1985 by Javier Nieto Santa and Gabriel Ordeig Cole to market a carefully collected body of products intended to better the quality of urban space. Its focus is the Person, the City and the Planet. Santa & Cole outdoor Urban Elements are designed to create more humane and social spaces that help people experience the richness of urban life and contribute to the health of the environment. The company participates in the renewal of the Barcelona streetscape and the city’s emergence as an international design hub, as well as Barcelona’s goal to model a sustainable city.
