by Ann Withanee — December 13, 2010—Landscape Forms, North America’s large designer and manufacturer of site furniture, has earned an FX Award for Metro40, its design-led collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA, the international design studio and subsidiary of the BMW Group.

Metro40 bested seven other products and collections to garner the prize for Public, Leisure or Workspace Furniture. The FX Awards, held annually at the Grosvenor House Hotel’s Great Rooms in London’s Mayfair acknowledges the highest achievements in interior product and project design.

Richard Heriford, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Landscape Forms, said, “We are delighted with the results of the competition. It is such a coup for our brand as the UK market is relatively new for Landscape Forms but is filled with amazing prospects.”

The design team strove to give the various elements in the collection individual character while creating a strong common formal and material identity. Metro40 is designed to compliment diverse urban environments and to be internationally usable. Designs were conceived and developed to address cultural differences in usage patterns, global architectural styles and climate conditions, with quality materials and finishes that would ensure longevity.

The collection comprises seven distinct urban elements including:

  • Connect: a transit shelter designed for bus or light rail.
  • Rest: a series of benches available in several different versions, with or without backs or armrests, to provide a diverse range of uses.
  • Ride: a bike rack that interprets the design language with discreet nuance.
  • Collect: a series of litter and recycling receptacles.
  • Hi Glo: a 12-foot tall LED pedestrian light designed as decorative lighting for sidewalks, and Lo Glo: a 3-foot tall LED light for pathways both of which offer environmental and health benefits associated with advanced LED technology.
  • Show: a display structure designed to house advertising, signage and transit information.
  • Stop: fixed or removable bollards designed for traffic control.
