by Jbs030309 a3 — March 4, 2009—LaserMonksGreen.com is now shipping SoyPrint cartridges, reportedly the first laser printer cartridges that use toner powder derived from soybeans. Cartridges for the most popular laser printers are available under the SoyPrint brand, and are said to be of identical quality as oil-based competitors.
According to LaserMonksGreen.com, US schools, businesses, institutions and government offices use more than 100 million printer cartridges per year at two liters of traditional oil per cartridge. By using soy toner, the US can potentially avoid using 200 million liters of oil each year.
The yield of SoyPrint cartridges is commonly 20 percent greater than that of brand name oil-based toners, while the print quality is identical, says LaserMonks. Soy ink has been available for some time, but this is the first soy toner cartridge specifically for laser printers, according to the company. SoyPrint cartridges are manufactured in the US and will be shipped from warehouses nationwide.
The cartridges are fully recyclable through a free program arranged by LaserMonksGreen.com and the manufacturer, and available to all purchasers.
Our Lady of Spring Bank Cistercian Abbey in Wisconsin founded LaserMonks.com and LaserMonksGreen.com in 2002 as a way to offer lower cost and environmentally friendly ink and toner alternatives and to provide support to both the abbey and those in need.
