Littelfuse expands protection relay line with 20 new POWR-GARD products

by AF 0816 g3 — August 21, 2009—Littelfuse, Inc., announces a complete line of POWR-GARD Protection Relay products that increase worker safety and protect equipment by detecting hazardous electrical conditions before any damage occurs. POWR-GARD’s protection relays are based on the leading product line in the mining industry and for the past 20 years have been proven to withstand the harshest conditions and meet the most stringent safety requirements. The new POWR-GARD protection relays are designed to improve safety and reduce downtime in industrial applications.

Each year Arc-Flash incidents in industrial facilities cause an average loss of more than $500,000 per event. According to IEEE, 90 percent of those Arc-Flash incidents are caused by ground faults. Littelfuse’s POWR-GARD Ground Fault Protection Relays detect ground faults as they develop and alert personnel before a catastrophic event occurs. To significantly reduce the risk of Arc-Flash, safety managers can use Littelfuse’s POWR-GARD Resistance Grounding Systems to physically limit ground fault currents to safe levels.

Littelfuse POWR-GARD Protection Relays address electrical problems in a various industries and environmentsfrom the harshest conditions in petrochem and wastewater treatment facilities to the sterile environments of semiconductor manufacturing plants and hospitals. Typical applications are electrical circuits containing transformers, generators, switchgear, panelboards, variable frequency drives, motors, pumps, feeder lines, and grounding resistors.

Littelfuse also launched “Ask the Expert” technical support. All technical questions are answered by professional engineers within 24 hours.

The new line features 20 protection relays and systems and is described in a 62-page catalog, including a 22-page technical overview section. To download a copy of the catalog and for more information, see the company’s Web site.
