LPCB approves first installer of fire-resisting compartment systems

by jbs081509 c3 — August 21, 2009—The U.K.’s G&A Fire Protection Ltd. has become the first company to receive Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approval according to the newly released Loss Prevention Standard (LPS) 1500—”Requirements for the LPCB approval and listing of companies installing construction elements used to provide compartmentation in buildings.”

LPS 1500 ensures that companies are sufficiently trained and knowledgeable to install fire-resisting compartment systems (metal-faced insulated panels as well as other fire-resisting walls, cavity barriers, floors, and roofs) approved by LPCB to the requirements of LPS 1208—”LPCB Fire resistance requirements for elements of construction used to provide compartmentation.” LPS 1500 specifically covers aspects of installation that are critical in terms of fire protection.

G&A Fire Protection Ltd. also gained LPCB approval to LPS 1531—”Requirements for the LPCB approval and listing of companies installing or applying passive fire protection products” (such as fire-rated board, spray materials, and ductwork). LPS 1531 ensures that companies installing or applying passive fire protection products can install these such that the systems meet the intended fire performance.

Overall the combination of approval to LPS 1208, LPS 1500, and LPS 1531 ensures that the systems, components, and installation of each standard work together to ensure the intended fire performance is met, says BRE Global, parent company of the LPCB.
