January 12, 2004—Mac-Gray Corporation, a laundry facilities contractor and a provider of other amenities to the multi-housing industry, and the largest provider of such services to the college and university market, has introduced LaundryView. This product, initially being deployed in colleges, enables students to monitor the status of the washers and dryers in their campus laundry rooms from any device that has a web browser.
The system is currently in operation at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, two Mac-Gray clients in Massachusetts.
LaundryView is the latest product in Mac-Gray’s suite of Intelligent Laundry Solutions. In addition to presenting up-to-the-minute information about the laundry machines, it enables students to be notified of changes through alerts to their computers or cell phones. Each machine reports its status to LaundryView several times every minute and, from their computers, students can see if the laundry room is busy, and can ask to be notified when machines become available. Once a student has started a machine, they can ask LaundryView to remind them when the machine completes its cycle.
LaundryView can also identify machines that may need service and automatically notify Mac-Gray. By monitoring the number of cycles that a machine has actually completed, it will also help us to anticipate required preventive maintenance and possible replacement of equipment.
