by Shane Henson — January 23, 2012—Larson Electronics’ Magnalight has added the RUL-9 portable hazardous-area light to its growing portfolio of lighting products.

Created with a focus on safety and durability, the portable hazardous-location light is designed to provide a strong light beam and long run times on a single charge of its lithium ion batteries, say the product’s designers. Equipped with an integral carry handle, rear-mounted LEDs (light-emitting diodes) and articulating head, the light is suited to a wide variety of uses, including industrial applications, utility work, military and law enforcement, fire/rescue and emergency services.

Made in the USA and designed to provide a rugged lighting solution for use in demanding hazardous locations, the RUL-9 portable and rechargeable light produces 120,000 candlepower and can operate for five hours on a single charge of its lithium ion batteries. Constructed with a high-strength nylon body with rubberized coating, this unit is built to withstand demanding service. This portable and rechargeable light is designed with lithium ion batteries, which give it a run time of five hours on a single charge and require no special charging procedures to maintain battery life.

Just as crucial to those working in demanding situations, the lithium ion battery pack in the portable light also helps this unit achieve a 33% lighter weight than its competitors. The light is approved for Class 1 Division 2 hazardous locations, making it ideal for use in industrial and commercial operations where flammable and hazardous atmospheres may be present. The single Xenon bulb and specially designed reflector in this light produces 120,000 candlepower and 1102 Lux at 25 feet, making it comparable in effectiveness to a 24-watt HID (high-intensity discharge) Powerlight. The light beam from this portable light can reach more than 600 feet in length, making it well suited to utility and emergency services applications as well. This versatile portable light is waterproof and includes a pair of rear-mounted red and white LEDs that can act as locator, signal or warning lights as needed.

Operation is controlled by a booted, three-way push-button switch, which allows operators to operate the main beam and LEDs independently or in tandem. The light head is adjustable and can be moved through 90 degrees of adjustment for optimal beam placement. An included 120 Volt AC wall charger provides easy recharging and will not overcharge the unit, allowing operators to simply leave the light connected to the charging unit when not in use to ensure a full charge anytime the light is needed.

For the product, Magnalight also offers a magnetic mounting system that consists of a five-inch diameter magnetic base with 200 lbs. of gripping force, powder-coated steel bracket, and spring-loaded fastener.
