USG Corporation has announced a revolutionary new process to manufacture the company’s flagship SHEETROCK® Brand Gypsum Panels, giving the products an unmatched combination of performance benefits. The new panels are designed to keep the work flowing by speeding the installation and finishing process for drywall contractors, thereby maximizing their productivity and bottom line.
The next generation of SHEETROCK Brand Gypsum Panels exhibits increased strength, rigidity and dimensional stability. The panels are easier to install than traditional gypsum panels, which means faster installation time and fewer callbacks for contractors. Patent protection for the new products and process is pending.
USG’s new SHEETROCK Brand Gypsum Panels feature three major performance benefits that will improve contractor productivity:
- Scoring and Snapping — The panels snap more crisply and cleanly, creating cleaner edges that require much less rasping time to smooth the edges than other types of drywall. Preparation time is also reduced, especially around doors, windows and electrical outlets.
- Handling and Durability — The board’s added strength makes it more rigid and easier to carry and hang, reducing the tendency to flex that can result in accidental (and sometimes hidden) core breakage. The result is quicker installation, less material waste and stronger walls.
- Flatness — The new panels remain entirely flat during storage. When stored properly on spacers at the distributor or job site, the panels won’t warp or become wavy. Flat board not only is easier to install and finish, but has a better overall appearance.
Other features result in a more attractive finished appearance that retains its look over time. These include better bonding of the face paper, which means fewer blisters, easier finishing and superior adaptability to varied climatic conditions.
