by Rebecca Walker — Salem, NJ, Sept. 22, 2008—Mannington Mills and Alliance Recovery Corporation want to locate a technologically advanced alternative energy electrical generation facility on Mannington’s property in New Jersey.
If the agreement is completed, Mannington, a leading floor covering manufacturer, would purchase up to 11 megawatts of electricity from Alliance, representing the majority of the company’s New Jersey site electrical demand.
Alliance Recovery Corporation, located in Wilmington, Del., has developed a proprietary system that converts rubber waste into fuel oil for electrical generation. Using new pollution technologies, the Alliance system employs a thermal chemical process to convert various forms of rubber waste including waste or scrap tires to usable fuel oil. The recovered oil is used to power reciprocating engines, driving alternators that then make electricity.
The process creates a sustainable source of electricity that would be used by Mannington’s manufacturing and support operations, with the excess sold into the local power grid. The Alliance system can contribute to the overall reduction of dependence on fossil fuels while removing tons of rubber and scrap tires from the waste stream each year.
