by Brianna Crandall — January 11, 2012—A new, peer-reviewed, vapor-based fumigant capable of significantly lowering hospital-acquired infection rates worldwide and potentially transforming the way hospitals and various other facilities and their furnishings and equipment are cleaned and sterilized, recently received foundational patent protection in Canada and is expected to be commercially available in the early part of 2012. The company reports it has six international patent applications in place, as well.
According to Medizone International, Inc., its “revolutionary” AsepticSure hospital disinfection product is a portable, affordable, easily-operated system that can be used by trained maintenance staff.
For use, the product is placed in the center of a room that has been sealed with easily removable 3M tape product. The AsepticSure equipment is then turned on from outside of the room through a remote wireless computer interface, and a specified mix and strength of an ozone-based gas formula fills the room. Following the sterilization process, a separate technology restores the atmosphere inside the room to EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) standards. The entire process takes 80 to 90 minutes.
The company reports that with its new AsepticSure decontamination system, decontamination to the sterilization standard of 99.9999% is obtainable within hospitals, airlines, cruise ships, long-term care facilities, food processing plants, clean room manufacturing facilities, schools and other critical infrastructure. A government variant is also being tested for bio-terrorism counter measures for building remediation.
Medizone is engaged in initial production of its modular design. The company recently achieved a production manufacturing agreement with SMTC Corporation of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Technology transfer for manufacturing is well under way and SMTC is now in possession of Medizone’s first purchase orders.
