by Rebecca Walker — March 12, 2010—GSH Group, Inc., an international facilities and energy management provider throughout the United States and Europe, announced that a property enrolled in its Energy Plus program has achieved an Energy Star award.
The award, which was given in January, is for Meritage Properties’ Metroplex I, located in Landover, Maryland. Constructed in 1978, the property received an Energy Star rating of 79 out of 100, which means it is operating more efficiently than 79 percent of similar buildings.
GSH has been running its Energy Plus program at Meritage’s facility since September 2008, as well as at its sister property Metroplex II. GSH carried out several projects to improve energy efficiency, including installation of highly efficient lighting; upgrades to the building management systems; and placing solar heaters on the roofs.
Energy Star’s energy management program for businesses has already been used for over 96,000 buildings across the United States, with the best receiving the Energy Star by the Environmental Protection Agency.
