Meyda Custom Lighting releases lighting fixtures for earthquake-prone areas

by Shane Henson — August 9, 2013—Meyda Custom Lighting announced this week that it has expanded its line of lighting fixtures to include ones specially engineered and designed to meet the most stringent U.S. codes for earthquakes, tremors and volcano eruptions.

Complying with Unified Facilities Criteria code guidelines, Meyda offers custom capabilities to suspend lighting fixtures with anti-sway high-bay load-bearing fasteners and components that are installed at a variety of attachment points, the company says. The designs are reportedly built into the structure configurations so the fixtures do not sway or collapse during earthquakes, tremors or volcano eruptions.

These custom fixtures exceed code specifications by two to ten times, ensuring maximum safety and security while surpassing testing standards for seismic capacity determination, Meyda adds. The pendants and surface-mounted fixtures include support materials such as cast metal, loop and hooks, or swivel hanger assemblies fitted with restraining devices to hold stems in the support position during motion.

Meyda Custom Lighting is a Meyda Tiffany Company based in Yorkville, New York. Meyda designs and manufactures a wide range of lighting products, including lamps, windows and accessories to meet the exact specifications of any commercial or residential project. Conventional and energy-efficient lamping solutions are available, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), compact fluorescents, incandescents and more, the company says.
