by Rebecca Walker — April 10, 2009—CTA Architects Engineers announced that it has been awarded LEED-EB Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its Billings, Mont., office.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is USGBCs suite of rating systems for designing and constructing the worlds greenest, most efficient, and highest performing buildings. LEEDEB is their Existing Buildings rating system which encourages not only green building, but green operations and maintenance practices as well.
CTA has also achieved the Energy Star label award; Energy Star-qualified facilities meet strict energy performance standards set by the EPA to use less energy, and cause fewer greenhouse gas emissions. The Billings CTA office earned an Energy Star rating of 82 which places it within the top 18% of energy efficient office buildings nationwide.
CTAs Billings office is located in the historic Marshall- Wells Building, constructed in 1919 for use as one of the largest regional wholesale hardware distribution centers of the time. After being used as a warehouse for close to 80 years, the dilapidated building was bought by CTA in 2002 and renovated into the companys new corporate headquarters.
“Achieving LEED-EB Gold certification demonstrates CTAs commitment to the environment, and by transforming an iconic local structure into its headquarters, it has enhanced the vitality of their local community,” says Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO, Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council.
CTAs has 80 LEED Accredited Professionals company wide, with many contributing to the LEED certification process. CTAs LEED-EB Gold certification was based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community.
