by Shane Henson — December 24, 2012—Moroso, an international designer of sofas, armchairs and accessories, has added the option of quilting the seats to three of its classic designs.
Moon Chair by Tokujin Yoshioko, Take a Line for a Walk by Alfredo Häberli, and Fjord Relax by Patricia Urquiola are now all offered with an optional zip-on/zip-off, polyester microfiber-filled quilted seat cover, providing the already comfortable armchairs with an even more cushioned surface. In addition to softness, the covers provide color and texture and are most attractive in fabrics that contrast in color and pattern to the back of shell surface, says Moroso.
Moon was inspired by the beauty of light and shadow on the surface of the moon. This most basic form has an implicit elegance with its clean, flowing lines. While the original version was of recyclable roto-molded polyethylene, the quilted version is fully upholstered.
Take a Line for a Walk is a modern interpretation of a classic wing back chair, providing an enveloping enclosure for a cocoon of comfort, says Moroso. It comes on a four-star swivel base with optional ottoman, or on legs with optional attached footrest. There is also a two-person version. The quilt zips snugly around the contour of the shell.
Fjord Relax is an asymmetric lounge chair characterized by the cleft that runs down the middle of the back. It has a steel shell with molded polyurethane foam cover. The quilt zips to the chair cover.
Purchasers of the armchairs will find that they are both chic and sustainably designed. Since there is a close connection between quality and the impact on the environment, Moroso has reportedly decided to use “clean,” nonpolluting production processes, as well as materials that are natural or as recyclable as possible.
