Motel 6 to swap carpeting for Tarkett wood-effect laminate flooring

by Rebecca Walker — October 28, 2008—Motel 6 plans to use wood-effect laminate flooring in its new Phoenix Prototype and property renovations rather than carpet.

Motel 6’s new flooring, made by Tarkett, is composed of 80% pre-consumer recycled material. The new flooring is also a critical component of the updated Motel 6 design.

As the literal foundation of the room, the flooring plays a major role in defining the feel of the space, giving it an updated, larger, and cleaner look that complements the modern design of the new Phoenix Prototype room, the motel chain said.

In addition to the beneficial environmental impact of choosing wood-effect laminate flooring, Motel 6 said it selected this flooring for practical reasons, among them being its durability and a wooden look that complements the design of the new Phoenix Prototype room. It also said that laminate flooring doesn’t retain odors from smoke or pets, takes less time to clean and, unlike carpet, does not require regular steam cleaning.
