August 17, 2007—Mullican Flooring prefinished hardwood products have been verified as “sustainable” by the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc.(AHMI) through data provided by the U.S. Forest Service. Mullican has been a supporting member of AHMI and endorses the association’s new “Verified Sustainable” program.
Mullican Flooring says that having this verification by AHMI validates what the flooring company has known for the past 20 years and is highly pleased that the Appalachian hardwood forest has now been verified to be sustainable by US Forest Service Data.
The U.S. Forest Service has notified AHMI that 2.29 trees are growing for every tree that is harvested or dies of natural causes in the 344 counties in the Appalachian hardwood forest. The Appalachian hardwood forest now has 65.4 million acres of timberland, reflecting a significant increase in hardwood growth during the past 15 years.
