by Brianna Crandall — April 3, 2015—On April 15, the National Institute of Building Sciences buildingSMART alliance will release the latest edition of the nation’s consensus-based standard governing building information modeling (BIM), designed to help streamline the way the U.S. building industry plans, designs, builds and maintains facilities.
The National BIM Standard-United States (NBIMS-US) Version 3 (V3) covers the full life cycle of buildings—from planning and design through construction and operations. The NBIMS-US Project Committee went through a multi-year process to prepare the new edition of the standard, with input from building professionals from across the nation and around the world.
The National Institute of Building Sciences, authorized by public law in 1974, is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that brings together representatives of government, the professions, industry, labor and consumer interests to identify and resolve building process and facility performance problems. The Institute serves as an authoritative source of advice for both the private and public sectors with respect to the use of building science and technology.
