by Shane Henson — June 20, 2011—The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the nation’s primary federal laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development, has launched Continuum Magazine to showcases the laboratory’s latest and most impactful clean energy innovations and the researchers and unique facilities that make it all happen. The quarterly publication is designed as both a Webzine and a print magazine.

Continuum’s debut issue explores the many ways NREL is leading the nation to a clean-energy future with a high penetration of renewable energy on the grid. Articles in this issue focus on:

  • The first-of-its-kind Energy Systems Integration Facility to be housed at NREL and how it will transform U.S. energy infrastructure.
  • Multimegawatt wind turbine development that is changing the face of wind on the grid.
  • NREL’s unique leadership role in solar science and a look ahead to America’s role in ensuring a clean energy future for the nation and the world.

Wind energy’s ability to make major contributions to meeting the nation’s electrical demand is discussed in this issue of Continuum Magazine.

Readers can also learn how:

  • NREL’s technique provides the solar cell manufacturing industry with a quicker, cheaper way to produce large volumes of high-performance PV devices.
  • In the war on energy waste and pollution, NREL is helping the military create new systems to power vehicles and base facilities with clean energy.
  • NREL studies confirm big wind, solar potential for grid integration.
  • NREL engineers provide leadership and support in the development of interoperability standards.
