National solar tour showcases solar-powered buildings in 46 states

by Jbs091808 i3 — September 19, 2008—More than 5,000 solar homes, businesses, and schools throughout the US will open their doors to the public in September and October for the National Solar Tour to showcase current solar technology applications. The annual event is coordinated by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and sponsored by Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).

The National Solar Tour features property owners who open their doors to share how they are using the latest solar technologies to 1) drastically reduce monthly energy bills, 2) reduce harmful carbon emissions, and 3) enjoy rich tax credits and cash incentives as they improve their property values, says ASES.

Promoted as the nation’s largest grassroots solar energy event, the ASES National Solar Tour attracted more than 115,000 people to solar buildings in 46 states last year, and the event grows bigger every year.

Although most of the self-guided tours will occur on Oct. 4, 2008, some events happened as early as late August, while others will stretch into November. This year, events are currently scheduled for every state except Idaho, Mississippi, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Dates and locations of solar tours in each state are available on the ASES National Solar Tour Web site.
