Nefsis cloud eliminates hidden costs of business video conferencing infrastructure

by Shane Henson — September 23, 2011—Online services innovator Nefsis, a provider of multipoint video conferencing software and online services, recently announced that its cloud-based technology is an effective tool to eliminate the hidden costs of business video conferencing infrastructure.

Point-to-point, boardroom video conferencing systems prevalent during the previous two decades were simply not designed to support demand from entire employee populations, Nefsis officials say. As these hardware-based systems grow to more than four simultaneous participants—the typical built-in port capacity today—the hidden cost of additional video switching and multipoint control units (MCU) appears, adds the company.

Nefsis uses virtualization technology in a true cloud to provide multipoint video, thus eliminating the cost of these fixed-capacity multipoint control units and providing easy scalability for Nefsis customers. The technology could be useful to facilities managers sourcing video conferencing systems, particularly for more than four participants, whether for connecting distant facilities or, in some cases, promoting teleworking initiatives.
