by Ann Withanee — June 27, 2012—Davis Furniture Industries, Inc., captured two Silver Awards in The Best of Neocon product competition for two seating series: Fina and C.R. Lounge. Fina is notable for its use of fine bent plywood technology, and C.R. Lounge for its minimalist aesthetic. Both captured the attention of facilities executives, designers and specifiers at the Davis Furniture showroom in The Merchandise Mart, Chicago, during NeoCon 2012.
Fina Chair Series uses the art of bent plywood technology. Designed by Wolfgang C.R. Mezger, the Fina design has a thinner shell than ever before, notes Davis Furniture, and its thin shell contributes to a look of elegance and allows for more flexibility in the back. Fina’s slight concave shape of the seat and backrest provides comfort, further enhanced with a waterfall edge along the front of the seat.
Shells are available in one of three constructions: a bent plywood core in oak or beech, accentuated with optional upholstered seat and back liners; a combination of polypropylene plastic on the front and glossy plastic on the back in choice of colors; or a fully upholstered, padded shell, marked by a ripple effect horizontal stitching detail.
Basic options include four-leg, sled, and cantilevered designs available in chrome or power-coat with plastic or felt glides. The four-leg and sled bases are available with arms that flow up from the base in a continuous line and have wood inset armrests. The cantilevered base has a fluted wood armrest that tapers toward the back and floats independently from the shell.
The C.R. Lounge series, also designed by Wolfgang C.R. Mezger, mixes hard, abrupt lines and very soft comfortable seating. Its wide angles and gently curved arms belie the fact that C.R. Lounge is a perfect square when viewed from the front.
Available fully upholstered in fabric or leather or in contrasting front and back fabrics, users have the option of marrying an upholstered front with a white or black glossy plastic shell. The angles of the base work in harmony with the angles of the seat, and users can choose between a fixed or memory return swivel base in chrome or powder-coat finish.
The lounge setting is complete with coordinating coffee tables, in round or oval surface options, in standard wood veneers of white or brown marble, and Chroma white acrylic.
