by Ann Withanee — June 20, 2012—The Nemo Bar and Trellis by izzy captured a Best of NeoCon Gold Award for Furniture Systems during the annual NeoCon contract furnishings show in June at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

Bringing a fresh look to furniture systems, the Nemo Bar and Trellis line is equally applicable in corporate offices and colleges as well as the airport lounge. Its innovative approach opens new avenues for facilities managers to pursue because the product line’s flexible environment “fosters, supports and stimulates” a free-flowing exchange where two or more are gathered. It also provides a sanctuary for semi-private work or reflection, according to the product designers. In all, it is a fresh take on a category that has been dominated by cubicle systems for more than four decades, say the line’s designers.

The Nemo Bar and Trellis furniture line was designed by Joey Ruiter of JRuiter + Studio and Chuck Saylor, the founder and CEO of izzy+. The Gold Award for Nemo by izzy, said Saylor, is a sign that the “past is now the past, and a new day has dawned that will unleash and expand the power of collaboration and human connection.”

The Nemo Bar and Trellis by izzy help create inspiring spaces for next-generation knowledge workers and learners. The Bar offers a hub for connection and collaboration, where ideas may be freely shared. The Trellis provides a sense of enclosure and privacy for one individual to several people at a time, along with options for power and technology.

Consistent with the izzy+ modernist design philosophy, the Bar and Trellis reflect clean and simple geometric forms. Both elements support the ideas associated with layering, change of scale and intuitive functionality. Using recyclable materials, both the Bar and Trellis strive for a balanced, organic pureness of form that elegantly fulfill the desired function of each.
