by Ann Withanee — June 25, 2012—Tables, cushioned benches and consoles captured attention in the Nucraft showroom at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago. The collection of occasional pieces with simple lines and strong architectural forms won a Gold Award in the Best of NeoCon product competition during NeoCon 2012, which annually draws upward of 40,000 professional facilities managers and designer/specifiers to the Mart in Chicago. Emme is offered in materials and detail that complement the straightforward design aesthetic.

“I approached Emme with the simple desire to make it no less or no more than it needed to be,” explains the Emme collection’s designer Jess Sorel of the California-based sorelstudio. Notable for its architectural forms, shared design details, and an emphasis on horizontal planes, the collection’s individual pieces can be combined or used on their own in a lounge, waiting area, or lobby.

Nucraft uses recycled materials in manufacturing Emme, allowing it to contribute toward the attainment of points in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, a set of the universally recognized standards for green environments established by the U.S. Green Building Council. In addition, Emme can be specified with materials made from rapidly renewable resources or wood content certified by the Forest Stewardship Council for its environmental attributes.

Nucraft won two other awards in The Best of NeoCon product competition: the company captured the coveted Best of Competition Award for Passport Solo and Duo flexible conference room furniture (see FMLink story: “NeoCon 2012: Nucraft wins coveted Best of Competition with flexible Passport conference furniture), and a Silver Award for Reveal Conference products.
