by Brianna Crandall — June 24, 2013—Keilhauer introduced its new collaborative furniture collection Juxta, designed by Vienna-based EOOS, at NeoCon 2013 in Chicago June 10-12 and brought home a Gold Award in the Best of NeoCon Competition under the Seating: Conference category.
Juxta is a collection of chairs, stools, and tables designed to address the myriad ways people behave and interact while meeting. In large groups or small, in public spaces or private, the juxtaposition of opposing behaviors often occurs in a single scenario: formal and informal; mobile and stationary; standing and sitting; brief and lengthy, notes Keilhauer, in both opposition and harmony. Juxta reportedly addresses all these dichotomies simultaneously, in a dynamic way.
Juxta consists of a collection of 39 individual components that can be assembled in various ways to create 74 unique products, which, in turn, produce unlimited configurations of stools, chairs, and tables.
The Juxta series comprises chairs configurable on four different bases: wire, four-leg, four-star with glides available with or without tablet, and five-star with casters available with or without tablet. The four different chair bodies (high back and low back, both with and without arms), are available with seat heights suitable for lounging or working. A side chair with a four-leg base is included.
Stools include four-star bases with glides, five-star bases with casters, and four-leg bases, with seat heights for counter stools and bar stools, as well as lounge height. Tables with wood, laminate, or quartz, and round or square tops, are offered in five heights, from occasional to bar height. Slab tables in two sizes and two heights, counter and bar, can be specified in wood or laminate.
This wide diversity of seating and table options accommodates all manner of meeting styles, making it easy for specifiers to maintain cohesive aesthetics throughout an installation. Adding to the flexibility of Juxta is the tablet arm, perhaps the most innovative aspect of the collection. On stools, the table arm rotates 360o, and on chairs, it pivots 180o, so that specifiers and facilities managers don’t have to order left- or right-hand tablets.
“I would go so far as to say that Juxta chairs have delightful personalities,” says Mike Keilhauer. “I am always moved by how EOOS incorporates expressions into their designs. When I see this collection, I smile.”
Juxta seating is available upholstered in any of Keilhauer’s textiles and leathers, as well as COM and COL, and the seating as well as the tables are covered by Keilhauer’s standard ten-year warranty. As per Keilhauer’s tradition of environmental sensitivity, the company makes Juxta as well as its other products out of materials that are recycled or sustainable, last for the longest possible time, are recyclable, and are manufactured with 100 percent renewable energy, in facilities that produce zero waste to landfill. Juxta is recognized with BIFMA level 2 (Gold) certification and GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality certification, and the tables use FSC wood.
Committed to original design, Keilhauer engineers and manufactures a complete range of office seating. Keilhauer says it made the revolutionary discovery of gender differences in seated postures and introduced solutions to ensure that both men and women are supported in a task chair, and can adopt postures that bring more oxygenated movement to their bodies. Designed with scrupulous attention to detail, Keilhauer products are reportedly built for long life with a conscientious focus on environmental design principles.
